The Six Month Stats are In!

This Tuesday we went to the doctor's office for Keegan's six month check-up. His weight is 18.5# and that puts him in the 75th percentile for weight. He is also in the 75th for height. Once again he was a very brave boy by only crying a short time after recieving two shots.

Keegan continues to not miss a meal! He is eating solid foods three times a day. His current menu of favorites includes: prunes, zuchinni, pears, peas, applesauce, and acorn squash. This week he will be trying sweet potatoes and carrots!

These are a few of my favorite things...

I love the summer and Kevin loves the winter. However, we both love to spend time at the pool! We have been able to go to the pool as a family a couple of times this year. This past Sunday we recently went and had a blast. Keegan enjoys sitting in the water and splashing all around. He does not show any fear; but rather is very relaxed when in the water. We leave for Florida in 3 weeks. We plan on spending a lot of time in the water and I think Keegan will do just fine lounging in and around the pool!

Keegan has had a lot of company over the last month. He especially enjoys time with his grandparents. The picture with Kevin's dad holding Keegan really shows how big and long Keegan is getting. I can not wait for the next doctor's visit so I can see how much Keegan weighs. The other picture shows Keegan playing with his new favorite toy, a remote control and wearing his favorite shirt...a Catepillar shirt. His Grandpa thought his shirt was pretty cool too.

Kevin and Keegan recently got a remote controlled boat for our pond. Almost every night you can find our family out in the backyard playing with the boat. We decided one evening to take the boat to one of the other ponds in the neighborhood. So, we packed everyone in and biked our way to our destination. It was awesome. The boat definitely gets rave reviews from both Kevin and Keegan!

Who pressed the fast forward button?

Keegan is officially 5 months old! I will have to admit that the first few months as a mother were very hard. I was always wondering if he was happy in this new life he entered into. And then my questions were answered...his smiles and laughter let me know that he was a very happy and healthy baby.

In the last month, Keegan continues to demonstrate that life is going very well for him. He continues to wake up every morning and amaze me with all the new things he can do. He now rolls from his back to his stomach and vice versa. He also got some new wheels! We decided the infant car seat was cramping his style, so he now "rolls" in this lightweight stroller. The picture shows him a little too relaxed in the stroller as he is watching the ducks in the neighborhood pond. Come on now, it is tough being a baby!!
The other fun transition is the start of the solid foods! His current menu consists of rice cereal and mashed bananas. My goal this week is to begin to make his own baby food. My first attempt will be pureed zuchinni. Keegan is super excited! Kevin just wants to know how much time he has before he to share his Strickland's ice cream with Keegan. Kevin does not share his ice cream well so this will be interesting!!!

Hoosier Daddy!!!

We traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana for the Fourth of July Weekend. We stayed with my friend Jen, her husband, Mark, and their baby girl, Abby. Abby was born 3 weeks after Keegan. So, it was really neat to watch the two babies interact. Jen was such a wonderful host. We spent time talking about the ups and downs of motherhood and laughed as we remembered funny college stories. The time in Fort Wayne also gave us a chance to get to know her husband Mark better. Kevin and Mark hit it off really well. Mark let Kevin play with his remote controlled boat in the pond in their backyard. So, Kevin now is wanting a boat for our pond. Thanks Mark!

Kevin and I have always loved boating and being around/in water. Fortunately for us, we seem to have some great friends that have been blessed with having boats. We can now add Jen and Mark to that list of friends! So, while visiting Mark and Jen we spent time in their boat. We took this opportunity to introduce Keegan to the water. Luckily, Mark had a lifejacket for him! Keegan cried for a few minutes when he first got into the water, but then he relaxed and just took in his surroundings. We later found out the water was 66 degrees that day! Oops...sorry Keegan! I guess I am out of the running for Mom of the Year!

We got some great pics of the kids in their Fourth of July outfits. But, we found it very difficult to get them to smile at the same time AND to look at the camera at the same time. So, the picture below is the best one we were able to get!Overall, for our first trip as a family, we did quite well! I will have to admit that we really felt like a family this weekend. We laughed, smiled, and really enjoyed each others company. I hope that our first Fourth of July weekend in Indiana may turn out to be a family tradition. Who wouldn't want to be with friends relaxing and having a good time!Our next big family trip is in September to meet Keegan's Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma in Florida. Keegan can not wait to meet more Grandparents! We better get plently of rest before we take on that wonderful adventure....

Lions, Cousins, and Aunts, Oh My!!!

This past weekend, Kevin's Aunt Mary and Cousin Laura traveled to Ohio to meet Keegan. Laura also brought her 18 month old daughter, Callie. On Saturday afternoon, we traveled to the Akron Zoo. Keegan had a wonderful time and was more amused by the "exotic kids" then the animals!

After a few hours at the zoo, Keegan was exhausted! Thank goodness for the Baby Bjorn! After a good 40 minute nap on mom he was ready for more fun times at the zoo!

After the zoo and more naps for Keegan and Callie, we all met back at our house for a cookout. We spent the evening feeding the ducks and eating some good comfort food! The highlight of the evening was finding Callie redecorating our family room with an entire box of Kleenex. Who know that Kleenex could make a room "pop"!

Kevin later told me that his Aunt Jane turned to him at the end of the weekend and simply stated, "You are so blessed." Now that Keegan is 4 months old and the fog is slowly lifting from this haze of motherhood I stop and think about Aunt Jane's comment. And yes Aunt Jane, Kevin and I are so blessed to have each other and to have such a wonderful child. I am definitely loving this chapter of my life!
